These are the routes of exposure to mine drainage as reported by the residents of Paalaban, Camay and Cabitin.
Inhalation occurs anytime the residents are in the vicinity of the mine drainage or the river. Immersion occurs when they cross the river, bathe in the river, swim in the river or when they are engaged in small-scale mining. Ingestion usually occurs among children who accidentally drink river water while swimming or playing near the river.
