is this a waste of money festival. You have El nino crisis going on its better to spend the money to buy pumps etc and help the farmers devastated. It's a waste of money from the government of corruptions. After arya abra then its kawayan festival. What are the purpose of this festivities if Abra still belongs to the poorest province in the Philippines, what a shame to all the politicians...... this is just a PAYABANGAN Festival

baronamnama, I suggest you take a couple of deep breaths before your BP goes bonkers. You made good suggestions and maybe they heard you but I surely doubt they'd heed you. Why not ask the Governor and his wife exactly what the purpose of the Kawayan Festival and what it represents then maybe you'll change your mind. Go join in the festivities and let us know what you think, who knows you may even enjoy it not to mention inform you what it is all about.

3-8-2010 Baron-- relax, even soldiers need so R and R. Pride in your country, your province and pride on your city is important for people's self esteem. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. To show to the public our talents, our skills and our enthusiasm for our lives is good for our well being. Take a chill pill and mellow out. The world's problems will still be there after the fiesta as they always are. Every party has a pooper, that's why we invited you, party pooper. lol O.G.

Whatever purposes they might be, I think you've just made a good point, baronamnama. I don't blame you for feeling like it is just another version of namnama-killer, like its ridiculous predecessor 'Arya Abra', a pathetic useless idea that did nothing but waste time, money and effort, in my opinion. To me, it was nothing more than cheap mask for what the provincial government was failing to deliver to the people all the time at that time. There are certainly more important issues that need to be addressed for Abrenios rather than these unnecessary merrymaking pageantries. I don't think now is an appropriate time for Abra to be obsessed with 'Mardi Gras' or 'Ati-atihan'. Abra, in my opinion, doesn't need to be a copy-cat of other provinces, cities and towns that already have come up with their own versions of 'Ati-atihan'. The least that I, as Abrenio, would like to ask the provincial government to do is to take that 'Arya Abra' misnomer off the face of the kapitolyo and the Abra tunnel. Otherwise, what is it there for?

There have been Arya abra for more than 15 years+++ but what is the end result, abra still in the poorest province. Now the Kawayan festival now what should be the end result again, i doubt it would uplift the lives of the Abrenians. They call Kawayan festival but the problem is that we don't have too much production of kawayan it's almost on the brink of extinction. Maybe they want to call the Kawayan festivities because they want to stay in power forever and their kids/relatives will succeed them like the Kawayan. If you plant a Kawayan then after few years then there will rabong then rabong will become kawayan then it will spread.....political dynasty...... then the whole abra will be ruled by the kamag anak system.

To those who are in the know, may I ask if this Kawayan Festival is a renamed Dapil Festival or there are two festivals now? If there are two Festivals now "hosted" by Kapitolyo and another one, which is the traditional "Washington" (Bangued Fiesta), "hosted" by the Bangued Munisipyo, then we now have three major festivals in the capital of Abra, which is Bangued. Just curious. Thank you!

Instead of inventing nonsense festivals in a seemingly geometrical progression, I wish Abra leaderships, at all levels, would rather focus energy and meager resources on creating (or helping create) opportunities for the Abrenios. Remember, there must be a good number of people right now who can not afford three lean meals a day. And as more politicians use El Nino as scapegoat to make people believe it's the cause of poverty today and tomorrow, rather than ineffective leadership and inefficient government service, you can bet the number of people in poverty will geometrically progress as well. Time to think of solutions, definitely NOT the time for inappropriate celebrations! Fellow Abrenios, don't get carried away! That's a ridiculous 'Ati-atihan' mentality, in my own way of understanding.

Awww, come on guys - having the festivities once a year is something that the people expect and look forward to. It is a time honored tradition as well as culture driven. Don't forget most filipinos love a fiesta. Isu la iti pakayramanan tayo met iti bassit nga gin-awa nga aggapu kadaguiti agtuturay.
However, comparing this to the Arya Abra is like comparing mansanas ken lomboy. VV used the AA festivities to showcase himself riding his kabalyo around town while requiring the participation of all government employees in the entire province of Abra to parade around town. These people were obligated to spend their own money to pay for their tranportation and lodging while in Bangued. Whereas, the current adminstration is asking for voluntary participation.
Let the people have their three day fun then expect another notch of belt tightening for the next year. It maybe a vicious cycle but that's life in Abra. Being poor and happy is what life is all about in our province. C'est la vie, mon ami.

I do believe the Dapil Festival and Washington are one and the same. The current & "beloved" mayor of Bangued originated the Dapil Festival (dapilen da daguiti bulsa ti taga Bangued - hehe.) While the Kawayan festival is what was the Foundation Day erst the Arya Abra of Ex-gov Vicsyd Valera (current resident of QC Jail under suspicion of masterminding the assasination of Cong Chito.) I would suggest you direct your questions to the Gadors for details.. that is, if you can get them off their KI's in WaiKIKI. OldGeezer can be consulted as well with this matter.
I hope this clears your confusion, JDA.

In repy to Nicodemus.....
What are you taking about Abra Foundation? Kayat mo ilagip ti Abra nga ti probinsya nga kasali ti poorest province. Ken mangilagip daguiti agturay from valera, barbero, villamor, bersamin, paredes, etc it was cycle no new names in politics. I think Abrenians would look for new brand of politics, new name who has the ability to transform Abra.

Why was it called Foundation Day again, hp dear? Was that the day when the Founding Fathers/Mothers of Abra actually discovered Abra, or what? Or the day when they poured cement at the foundation of Capitolyo? You mentioned about Festivals and Fiestas as "a time honored tradition as well as culture driven", expound on this please. Cast your magic spell on all of us or I will cast my magic spell on you! Bim bim salabim...hocuspocus daydayacos....

"When i was a child, a Small Bird died in my hands & Mom said maybe I held it too tight! Now, lahat ng Birds na mahawakan ko Buhay na Buhay!" -Kris Aquino
Put away that wand and quit playing with her tampoon, Houdini, or I will cast a spell to have Kris Aquino waking up beside you with a small bird held very tightly!!
BTW, I was invited to perform my magic at the Dapil Festival. Maybe Houldini will get lucky and get an invite to the Abra Kawayan Festival with Kris Aquino as her assistant and demonstrate her Buhay na Buhay bird trick! hahahaha

So where will you get them "unas" to Dapil Merlin? From Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac? I don't think there are still "unas" in commercial quantity in Abra, alam ko "UNGAS", marami! I hope they won't chop those Rabong and tender Kawayan for the Dadapilan, then you would have to drink KAWAYAN JUICE!!!
Caution: secure your "third leg" when going near that dadapilan or it will turn into a paper-thin third-leg jerky! hahahaha!
mancono is waiting! why do you love fiesta again Merrylin?

Did you say "small bird", hockey pockey? If you cast your spell on KA be sure to endow her with a pair of hockey-player-glove-size-hands if you want your magic spell to work! Otherwise she can only stroke the head of the bird. That's why I didn't go close to the Dadapilan to avoid endangering my treasured future a.k.a. "hinaharap". Besides KRIS sounds like a bladed weapon used in the south, can you just cast your spell on KRISTA RANILLO? Love those "smiley" photos!!! ahahaha!
What's with the baseball and the baseball bat on your avatar Merlin? hahaha!

Oh yeah, KR can abuse my wand any time - if you note the length of my staff, you'd be surpised how it does wonders my dear Houdie when it is used to poke those deep crevasses when I go spellunking. BTW, you can keep that banana chomper to keep you amused and keep your mind off from KR.
JDL, pay no mind to those naysayers of the Bangued & Abra festivities - they do not know what they are missing. I find it quite rewarding watching those attractive & young Miss Bangued contestants and also watching Houdini drooling a storm. nyahahaha!
